These Writers' Retreats have been developed in response to feedback that it can be difficult to find time in busy schedules to focus on writing.
Open to academic staff from all faculties, these retreats will give you the opportunity to devote a whole day to writing in a quiet, structured and supportive atmosphere, facilitated by a publishing academic.
The day includes some short discussions on good writing practice and how to approach your writing as a professional task, but the vast majority of the retreat will be devoted to writing without distraction. To this end, we suggest that you immerse yourself in the experience by putting an Out of Office on your email, and switching off your phone.
Please ensure that you bring:
A laptop and power cable. If you don’t have a laptop, then we do have a few we can lend out on a first come, first served basis. Please email us a.s.a.p. to book one.
Any materials (books, documents, data, etc.) that you need to work from.
Anything else that you might need to ensure that you can write effectively in an environment with 20 other people. Suggestions include earplugs, back cushions, a water bottle, quiet and odour-free (!) snacks, a USB drive, a notebook, a pen etc.
If you have previously attended a Writers' Retreat, the system may not allow you to book another session - sorry for the inconvenience. Please email us, tell us what date you want, and we will book the place for you: firstname.lastname@example.org
Important: Please seek approval from your line manager or equivalent before booking onto this course. Lunch is not provided. We encourage you to bring your own reusable cup or other container for refreshments (tea, coffee and water).
Course chargesPlease be aware that failure to cancel your place three full working days before a course or failure to attend a course will incur a £50 charge to your school.
