The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the basic principles of protection for users of lasers (Class 3R, 3B, and 4), and to satisfy the requirements of The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010.
Further local training may be needed before a new laser worker can be considered sufficiently trained and competent to work unsupervised with laser equipment.
For / Special Requirements
The course consists of a PowerPoint presentation given by your School Laser Safety Officer (LSO). There are also 4 short laser safety videos to view, which form part of the course and are available from the non-ionising radiation section of the Safety & Health Services website (Laser Safety Videos tab) which cover general laser safety, laser alignment, laser eyewear and filters, and laser classifications.
Attendees must also read the University guidance document ' Working with Non-Ionising Radiation - Laser Safety Guidance' available to view from the non-ionising radiation section of the Safety & Health Services website (Guidance tab).
