Course overview

We recognise that increasingly more staff are working part-time and/or taking part in a job share. In this workshop you will share your experiences of working part time and identify some of the challenges you’ve encountered. We’ll explore techniques and methods to overcome these, and share hints, tips and ideas for effective part time working.

This training supports the University of Bristol's commitment to flexible and inclusive working practices.

What we will cover

  • Keeping a perspective (why I want to work part time and the joys)
  • Working by outcomes – what it means
  • Working together and feeling part of the team
  • Great communication
  • Handing over and making sure you are kept in the loop
  • Prioritising work and making decisions about workload
  • Being assertive when the answer is simply ‘no’

What you’ll leave with

  • An understanding of the challenges of working part time and having explored ways to overcome those that are relevant to you
  • Have met other part time workers and shared hints, tips and best practice around effective part time working
