This course will support you to have effective and positive conversations with individuals in a management context, both face-to-face and virtually. We will focus on adopting a coaching approach to these conversations and will use a range of practical tools and techniques to develop confidence.

How to have effective conversations in a remote working context
How to use a coaching approach and a range of powerful questions
Preparing effectively for these conversations and managing expectations
Techniques for active listening and guiding conversations
Anticipating and managing possible reactions and responses

Confidence to approach development or performance conversations effectively and proactively, in a range of settings and formats

What to do before you attend: To maximise time in the workshop, there will be some pre-work to complete prior to attending which we will email to you approximately a week before the course.
Who this course is aimed at: This workshop is for professional services staff who have responsibility for managing other staff.
What you need to know
Refreshments: We do not provide refreshments for courses under 3 hours, you are welcome to bring beverages and/or snacks with you.
Cancellation fee: Your Division/Faculty will incur a £50 charge should you fail to attend on the day or cancel your place any later than three full working days before the course.
Sickness: If you are unable to attend the course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify us by email (email@example.com) as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.
Waiting list: Staff Development will operate a waiting list should this course become full. Because of this, places are non-transferable between colleagues.
How you book
Development courses should be discussed as part of a development plan agreed with your manager.
Each course will be open for bookings at 9 am on the day 8 weeks prior to the course date. If this date falls on a University closure day, the course will be released on the next working day.
