ImageJ/Fiji Level 1: Basics of image processing and analysis

Tutor Dr Stephen Cross

Terminal room 2.1 Biomedical Sciences Teaching labs

This workshop is suitable for anyone acquiring microscopy data as part of their research. No prior knowledge is necessary or assumed. The practical components are designed to enable attendees to work at their own pace.

The workshop will begin with a presentation introducing fundamental concepts of image analysis, characteristics of image data, its processing and segmentation. The attendees will then learn how to use ImageJ/Fiji to analyse features in microscopy images by carrying out a series of hands-on exercises using provided images.

The examples used will concentrate on fluorescence microscopy but the techniques used are widely applicable to other types of images. There will not be an opportunity for users to work on their own data during these sessions but further guidance is available for this.

Training will be provided by staff from the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility during the hands on session which will cover importing and exploring images, pre-processing data, object segmentation and finally, an introduction to macro recording and batch analysis. Advice will also be provided on finding further information and on opportunities for Facility users to receive further help from our support staff.

IMPORTANT NO-SHOW POLICY: If you are unable to attend the course after registration, please cancel online and email  Ms Elaine Sparey, (elaine.sparey@bristol.ac.uk) at least 24 hours before the start of the course.
