A hands-on introduction to 2D digitisation
Duration 2 hours
Team Library

This practical workshop is intended for anyone who wishes to learn how to digitise paper documents or images, whether for their own research or teaching, to help share content more widely or to help protect fragile paper originals. The session will look at how to manage your digitisation workflow before undertaking a practical session on how to use digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras and smartphones to digitise documents.

By the end of the workshop attendees will be able to:

  • Define their own requirements for digitisation
  • Understand the importance of image quality, image formats and colour correction
  • Prepare and create digitised versions of paper documents using a smartphone and digital SLR
  • Identify potential difficulties around permissions to digitise and how these might be tackled

This workshop is run jointly by Library Research Support and Special Collections.
