Reference management: EndNote Desktop
Duration 2 hours
Team Library
EndNote is a reference management package that lets you gather and organise bibliographic references and then cite these references in various word processors (MS Word, OpenOffice, Google Docs, Overleaf) whilst automatically creating a bibliography. This course gets you up-to-speed with populating your EndNote library with relevant references in a variety of ways and provides experience in citing references in Word.

Familiarity with Word will be useful. Downloading a copy of EndNote Desktop on to a personal device or UoB machine before the course is recommended, instructions can be found here: http://www.bris.ac.uk/library/subject-support/referencing/endnote/ However, this will be covered in the course so not strictly necessary.

The course is aimed at staff and research postgraduates and for those using EndNote X8 or later versions.

By the end of the course you will be able to:
  • search external databases and import references to EndNote;
  • manually type in references;
  • search for full text PDFs of references;
  • search your EndNote library for specific references and organise them with groups;
  • remove duplicate references, back up your files, and other ‘housekeeping’ tasks;
  • cite and edit references in MS Word.
  • synchronise your desktop account with the web version.
This is an online tutor-led session. If you book onto an online course, the joining details will be sent to you via Microsoft Teams invitation prior to the training.
