Reference management: EndNote Desktop
Duration 0.5 days
Team Library
EndNote is a reference management package that lets you gather and organise bibliographic references and then lets you cite these references in various word processors (MS Word, OpenOffice, Google Docs, Overleaf) whilst automatically creating a bibliography. This course gets you up-to-speed with populating your EndNote library with relevant references in a variety of ways and provides experience in citing references in Word.
Familiarity with Word will be useful.
For / Special Requirements The course is aimed at staff and research postgraduates and is only for those using EndNote X8 or later versions.
Objectives By the end of the course you will be able to:
  • search external databases and import references to EndNote;
  • search external databases from within EndNote;
  • manually type in references;
  • search for full text PDFs of references;
  • search your EndNote library for specific references and organise them with groups;
  • remove duplicate references, back up your files and explain the importance of both of these ‘housekeeping’ tasks;
  • cite and edit references in MS Word.
  • synchronise your desktop account with the web version.
Further information This is a tutor-led, hands-on session. This course does not cover the web-based EndNote Basic, which is available free to all University of Bristol staff and students. EndNote Basic has much of the functionality of the desktop version and can be used in conjunction with the EndNote desktop version.
