These workshops will be delivered by intercultural training consultancy, Kynfolk and will be delivered by a UK and a Chinese trainer. The aim is to increase understanding of cultural barriers to engagement and support and encourage reflection that will enable us to better engage this group.

We will cover cultural background and barriers to engagement and support. We will look at communication and language, student life, health and wellbeing from a Chinese perspective, disability in China and encouraging help seeking. We will be joined by current Chinese students for a short section who will act as a panel for any questions you may have.

Key outcomes
By the end of the two sessions, we will have: · Discussed some of the surprises and challenges Chinese students might face when studying (and living) in the UK · Discovered more about the features of Chinese culture that may be relevant to our roles · Reflected on what we can do in our roles to enhance the support we give to our Chinese (and other) students · Discuss possible actions to improve student experience for our Chinese students both locally and more broadly across the university

This training is designed for student facing academic and professional development staff who support Chinese students.

Delivered by Kynfolk training consultancy on behalf of the Student Inclusion Team
