This training is for both academic and professional services staff who have responsibility for managing the performance of other staff. 


This one day workshop has been developed in response to requests for further support in this area, as well as to provide a consistent approach across the University. Furthermore, it supports the University vision and strategy to nurture excellence and unlock potential.

Please come along prepared to discuss any performance related situations which you have come across when managing both high performers and poor performers.

What we will cover:

·        Why managing performance matters

·        How to create conditions for best performance

·        Frameworks and best practice for use in real life situations

·        How to create an environment where there is clear understanding of what needs to be accomplished

·        Understanding the similarities and differences between academic and professional services staff 

·        What to do when performance is slipping, or doesn't improve

·        Practical tools and real life example case studies - reviewed and discussed in groups enabling shared learning

On completion you will be able to:


·        Manage performance with increased confidence and skill

·        Review what actions to follow up within your own team

·        Understood how to create clarity when setting goal

·        Make use of techniques to turn around situations when performance is slipping
